What the Summarizer does

The Summarizer reads a long text and gives you its main points. Paste an article, a report, a long email thread, a meeting transcript, lecture notes or a chapter you need to review, and get the essentials in seconds: the key facts, the conclusions and, if you ask, the action items and deadlines hidden inside.

It keeps to what the text actually says. The tool is instructed not to add outside information or its own opinion, so the summary reflects the source rather than a new take on it.

How to use it

  1. Paste the text you want summarized into the input box. Copy it from a web page, a document or an email.
  2. Choose a format:
    • Bullet points – quick to scan, good for articles and reports.
    • Paragraph – flowing text you can paste into an email or a report.
    • Key takeaways + action items – the main points, then a separate list of tasks, decisions and deadlines.
    • One-line TL;DR + details – a single-sentence summary first, then supporting points.
  3. Pick a length: very short for just the essentials, short for about five points, or detailed to cover every main section.
  4. Press Generate. Copy the summary, try a different format, or Continue in chat to ask questions about the text.

The summary is written in the same language as the original text.

Tips for better results

  • Paste clean text. Remove menus, cookie notices and comment sections copied along with an article. They distract from the main content.
  • Use action items for meetings. The takeaways format pulls out who does what and by when, which is what most people need after a call.
  • Split very long documents. Summarize each chapter or section, then paste the section summaries together and summarize those.
  • Ask follow-up questions. After summarizing, Continue in chat and ask "What evidence supports point 2?" or "What does the author say about costs?"
  • Go back to the source for decisions. Use the summary to decide what to read closely, not as a replacement for reading the parts that matter.

Example

Input (meeting notes): Team call notes: launch moved to next Friday because QA found two checkout bugs. Maria fixes them by Tuesday, Tom updates the help page, Lee tells support. Budget unchanged. Next call Wednesday.

Output (key takeaways + action items):

Key takeaways: The launch is postponed to next Friday because testing found two checkout bugs. The budget stays the same.

Action items: Maria – fix the checkout bugs by Tuesday. Tom – update the help page. Lee – inform the support team. Next call on Wednesday.

Limits and honest use

  • Summaries leave things out. That is their job, but a detail you consider minor may be important to you. Read the original for anything with legal, medical or financial consequences.
  • AI can misread. Occasionally a summary may blur who said what or overstate a conclusion. Spot-check the summary against the source, especially numbers and names. Our guide on fact-checking AI answers shows how.
  • Credit the author. If you share or publish a summary of someone else's work, name and link the original.
  • Mind private content. Avoid pasting confidential documents or personal data you are not allowed to share. Read our AI privacy and safety guide for simple rules.
Want to reuse the main points in your own words? Pass the summary to the Paraphraser or ask the AI Writer to build a short post from it.
