What the Cover Letter Writer does

The Cover Letter Writer turns a job ad and a few lines about you into a tailored cover letter. It opens with a specific reason for applying, connects two or three of your real experiences or skills to what the employer is asking for, and closes with a confident request for an interview. You can choose a full letter or a shorter application email with a subject line.

It only uses what you tell it. The writer is instructed not to invent employers, degrees, numbers or achievements; anything missing appears as a placeholder like [Hiring Manager's name] for you to fill in.

How to use it

  1. Paste the job details and your background. Add the job ad, or at least the job title, company and main requirements. Then write a few lines about your experience, skills and why you want this role.
  2. Choose a tone: professional, enthusiastic, confident and direct, or warm and personal.
  3. Select a length: short (about 200 words), standard (about 300) or detailed (about 400).
  4. Pick a format: a full cover letter, or an email version for applications sent by email or through a short form.
  5. Press Generate. Copy the letter, Regenerate for a different angle, or Continue in chat to adjust it.

The letter is written in the language of your input, which helps when you apply for jobs abroad.

Tips for a stronger letter

  • Give results, not duties. "Built a weekly sales dashboard the team used in every Monday meeting" is far stronger than "responsible for reporting".
  • Match their words. Paste the real job ad. The letter can then echo the skills and terms the employer uses, which also helps with screening software.
  • Say why this company. One specific reason, such as a product you use or a project you admire, makes the letter feel personal.
  • Keep it to one page. Recruiters skim. Standard length is enough for most roles.
  • Write one letter per job. A tailored letter is worth more than ten generic ones.

Example

Input: Job: Junior Data Analyst at a regional grocery chain. Me: business degree, built weekly sales dashboards in Excel during a 6-month internship, learning SQL, I like turning messy data into clear charts. Professional, short.

Opening of the letter: Dear [Hiring Manager's name], during my six-month internship I built the weekly sales dashboards our team reviewed every Monday, and I discovered how much I enjoy turning messy data into charts people actually use. That is why the Junior Data Analyst role at [Company] caught my attention...

The letter then links the Excel dashboards and SQL learning to the job's requirements and ends by asking for a conversation, with no invented achievements added.

Limits and honest use

  • Everything must be true. Read the letter carefully and remove anything that overstates your experience. Employers check, and interviews quickly reveal exaggeration.
  • Fill in the placeholders. Search for square brackets before sending. A letter that says [Company] gets rejected.
  • Add your voice. Change a sentence or two so the letter sounds like you. Recruiters read many letters and notice generic phrasing.
  • Check the facts about the employer. Do not rely on AI for details about a company; take them from its website or the job ad.
  • Mind personal data. You do not need to include your address, phone number or ID details to generate a letter. Add contact details in your own document.
Applying by email? The Email Writer helps with follow-ups and thank-you notes after interviews. Run your final letter through the Grammar Checker before sending.
