AI assistants

Ready-made chat roles with their own instructions. Choose one to start a focused conversation, or create your own assistant in the chat.

What assistants are

An assistant is a ready-made role for the chat. Each one has its own instructions that tell the AI how to behave: what kind of help to give, which questions to ask when information is missing, what format to use and which limits to respect. The Interview Coach, for example, asks one question at a time and gives feedback on each answer, while the Translator keeps your formatting and explains tricky idioms. Instead of setting up the context yourself in every conversation, you pick an assistant and start talking.

Every assistant replies in the language you write in. Like the standard chat, assistants give general information only: the Document Explainer is not a lawyer, and the Wellness Guide is not a doctor.

How to use an assistant

  1. Choose an assistant below and press Use, or open Assistants from the sidebar in the chat.
  2. A new conversation starts with that role, and a label above the message box shows who you are chatting with.
  3. Type your request, or tap one of the suggested conversation starters.
  4. Press the × on the label at any time to return to the standard ChatG.

Create your own assistant

In the chat, open Assistants and choose Create assistant. Give it a name and a short description, write instructions describing its role, tone and rules (for example, "You are a patient piano teacher. Ask about my level first, keep answers short and suggest one exercise at the end"), and add up to three conversation starters. Your own assistants are saved in your browser together with your chat history, so export your data if you want to use them on another device.

Good instructions say who the assistant is, who it is helping, what to ask when details are missing and what it should never do. The guide on how to write prompts has more ideas, and the prompt library pairs well with any assistant.
