AI Translator
Paste text in any language, pick the target language and style, and get a natural translation that keeps your line breaks, lists and links.
What the AI Translator does
The AI Translator turns text from one language into another in a way that reads naturally, not word for word. It detects the source language on its own, so you only choose where the text should go. The target list covers 54 languages, including all 32 languages this site is available in, plus Chinese (Traditional), Finnish, Norwegian, Croatian, Serbian, Urdu, Tamil, Swahili and more.
Formatting comes through intact. Line breaks, paragraphs, bullet lists, Markdown, links, email addresses, numbers and code stay where they were, so you can translate an email, a product listing or a message template and paste it straight back.
How to use it
- Paste or type your text in any language into the input box.
- Choose the target language under "Translate to".
- Pick a style:
- Natural – fluent, the way a native speaker would write it. Best for most uses.
- Formal – polite wording and formal forms of address where the language has them, such as Sie in German or vous in French.
- Informal – casual, as between friends or colleagues who know each other well.
- Close to the original – stays near the source wording and sentence order, useful for studying a text.
- Press Generate. The translation appears in the result panel. Copy it, Regenerate for an alternative, or Continue in chat to ask about specific phrases.
Tips for better results
- Give context in a short note. A word like "bank", "date" or "charge" can mean different things. Start your text with a line such as "Context: email to a hotel about a booking" and delete that line from the result.
- Choose formal for business and official messages. Many languages mark politeness in grammar, and the wrong form can sound rude or overly familiar.
- Translate whole sentences. Single words without context are better looked up in a dictionary.
- Check names and numbers. Dates, prices and units are kept as written, but formats differ by country, such as 03/04 meaning March 4 or 3 April. Adjust them for the reader if needed.
- Use Close to the original when learning. Seeing the sentence structure mirrored helps you understand how the source language works. Our guide to AI for language learning has more ideas.
Example
| Original (English) | Spanish, formal | Spanish, informal |
|---|---|---|
| Thanks for your quick reply! Could we move our call to Thursday afternoon? | ¡Gracias por su rápida respuesta! ¿Podríamos trasladar nuestra llamada al jueves por la tarde? | ¡Gracias por responder tan rápido! ¿Podemos pasar la llamada al jueves por la tarde? |
The formal version uses "su" and a more careful verb; the informal one sounds like a message to a colleague you know well.
Limits and honest use
- Not a certified translation. Official documents for courts, immigration or universities usually need a certified human translator. Use this tool to understand such documents, not to submit them.
- Get important texts reviewed. For contracts, medical instructions, safety information or anything published under your name, ask a fluent speaker to check the result.
- Idioms and humor are hard. The translator tries to find an equivalent rather than a literal version, but jokes, wordplay and cultural references can lose something. It adds a short note when a phrase is genuinely ambiguous.
- Less common languages vary in quality. Results are usually strongest for widely used languages. Double-check texts in languages with fewer online resources.
- Keep private data private. Avoid pasting passwords, ID numbers or other sensitive details.
FAQ
Is the translator free?
Yes. There is no account and no fee. Every visitor gets a daily allowance of free messages, shared with the chat and other tools, which resets every day.
Do I need to select the source language?
No. The source language is detected automatically, even if the text mixes languages. You only choose the target language.
Will it keep my formatting?
Yes. The translator is instructed to keep line breaks, lists, Markdown, links, numbers, code and placeholders in place. Always glance over the result before you paste it into a template or app.
What if my text contains a question or instructions?
They are translated, not answered. If you actually want an answer or an explanation, use Continue in chat or ask in the chat, where you can discuss the translation.
Can I translate a whole document?
The input holds a few pages of text. For longer documents, translate section by section and keep the same style setting so the tone stays consistent.
